GODLINESS WITH CONTENTMENT

If I could only win the lottery then all my problems would be over!

Well, maybe it will quiet the creditor calls for a while, but many many lottery winners discovered that winning was only the beginning of their problems.   Do a Google search on “lottery stories” and read countless examples of sad sad stories.

In the United States we have learned to equate prosperity with Godliness, and everyone is teaching that God wants us to be rich.  But what does God really say about this?

I Timothy 6:5(b)-10…Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.  But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.  And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Is that $1.00 ticket worth the risk of winning?
