		<description>This verse is unfortunately often used to mean &quot;abandon your understanding.&quot; In order to acknowledge the Lord and follow His direction, we must use our understanding. If we don&#039;t use our own understanding of what God said, we end up using somebody else&#039;s understanding of what God said -- it is still a human understanding that we depend on, because we are human.

The verse does not, though, say &quot;Do not use your understanding.&quot; It says, do not *lean* on your understanding.&quot; We must not not rely exclusively on our *own* understanding of &quot;what God said,&quot; as if our understanding is unquestioningly perfect and authoritative.  Walk humbly, knowing that any human understanding of God&#039;s word is incomplete and fallible. Then we can always increase in understanding.

Studying together with people who do not always agree with us is a good way to find our errors and blind  spots, and not &quot;lean unto our own understanding.&quot;
