What you have witnessed is the supposed actions of the famous lemming. According to many sources, lemmings run in groups and if one decides to jump off a cliff the others follow suit.

Christians today are much like lemmings. Wherever the bandwagon heads they all jump on. Not only do they hop on to the many of the latest trends and fads such as

  • Purpose Driven Life,
  • Promise Keepers,
  • 40 Days of Purpose,
  • Prayer of Jabez, etc.

but they also stampede against the latest "atrocities"

  • Disney Boycotts,
  • Da Vinci Code Protests,
  • Operation Rescue, etc.

The majority of these ideas are man-centered and man-made and are either outright unscriptural or have the barest connection to Biblical truth. Much later in life we look back and feel rather foolish having participated in them.

That is not to say that some of these things may not be helpful, but keep in mind that God deals in minorities, remnants and unpalatable truths, and if the lemmings are dashing one would be wise to first evaluate why and where before following.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death.

Proverbs 14:15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent [man] looketh well to his going.

  1. What is the Prayer of Jabez?? When I was on my way to the hospital to have Ainsley, a friend of the family gave me a coin type thing with that on it. What is the significance of it?

  2. Hi Christie!

The Prayer of Jabez was a book (and associated materials) that essentially taught that we should pray to God for our prosperity.
