Angry. Part 4 of 5

Eliminating/Controlling anger

Step 1.

The first step to eliminating or controlling anger in our lives is to recognize we have a problem with it and confess it to the Lord.  Of course that is the first step to dealing with any sin in our lives.  Referring to the previous post, if we start analyzing our anger to determine if it is "good anger" vs. "bad anger", we will be on our way to doing something about it.  We need to acknowledge to ourselves and God that we have a problem with destructive anger.

1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Step 2.

Next step is to seek God's help in dealing with your anger:

Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Step 3.

God gives us some simple solutions to deal with anger.  Simple solutions that are often difficult to master, though. He tells us to can keep our minds at ease and how to do it:

Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee.

Phil 4:6-8 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.
