Daily Devotional – June 12

No free lunch

I visited a church and spoke to its pastor one Sunday. The pastor emphatically stated that, "We don't believe in 'easy believism.'"

I jokingly replied, "Yeah, its hard to believe, isn't it."

One of the most difficult concepts for humanity to understand is God's grace.

  • As humans we are so self-oriented that we have difficulty understanding a being who could offer us so great a salvation completely free of charge–with no strings attached.
  • As humans we usually give gifts to those deserving, or reward those who have earned it, but rarely do we offer charity to those who don't.

Understanding God's love is a prerequisite to understanding his grace. It amazes me how many Christians I meet who still think that salvation is something that they can earn and keep. We are no more deserving of God's love than we are his grace, but He gives freely. This is one "lunch" that is free.

Today, meditate on:

Ephesians 2:8,9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

If that doesn't drive you to your knees in thankgiving, nothing will.

  1. This was an important post for me to read. If we are not grounded in the Lord, offering grace and love to others depletes are energy and is a very scary act (at least to me).

I have a lot on your blog to catch up on. I have been out of my blog world for about a week.

    Peace and blessings!
