Daily Devotional – October 25

A truly good church is like a shepherd’s pie.

If it is all about feeling, emotion, spiritual enhancement, existentialism–its sole constitution is mashed potatoes.

If it is all about learning, study, work, the attainment of knowledge–its sole constitution is beef.

Neither of these alone make a good shepherd’s pie, but together…

Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

How’s your diet?

  1. I like your analogy here, even though shepherd’s pie is not one of my personal favorites.

  2. Thank you.
“Shepherd’s pie” looks grand. I even sensed myself hungry. That’s good and that’s sorrowful at the same time. “Shepherd’s pie” should feed us for we could share the mystery of the colors around, however it is served as a dessert but not the daily bread.
That’s wonderful that there still are the people who understand what is what and didn’t hide their thoughts, but share them with all.

  4. It has consistantly amazed me that people take for granted that we have written explanations for most of Jesus’ teachings and parables. Not to mention our own oral traditions for interpreting said teachings, I’m sure your denominations talmund is more correct than any other. But I digress. Shepards pie? Is that like eating flesh and drinking blood?
